DULUTH, Minn. (CNN/KARE) - A North American Tall Ship race made a stop in Duluth, Minn.

Vessels from all over Europe and North America arrived Thursday, many after running into some stormy weather Wednesday.

The nine ships are participating in the Great Lakes United Tall Ships Challenge, a race that includes six U.S. and Canadian stops.

Thousands gathered to get a glimpse of the massive ships. Festival organizers are hoping the event will attract a total of more than 100,000 visitors during its four-day run.
