Take a look inside your body at UT

AUSTIN (KXAN) - As summer vacation for the kids is winding down- there's an exhibit at the University of Texas that could help them learn a thing or two about the human body.

"It's basically an anatomical exhibition that lets people see how the body works," said Dr. Terry Todd, Director of the Stark Center.

From the muscular system to the bones in our body - this first exhibit inside the Stark Center will have you looking at your body in a whole new way.

"It's a way to allow people to come a lot further inside the systems of the body which have never been possible before," said Todd.

It's thanks to people donating their bodies to science that have made this exhibit possible. Scientists are able to put them on display by replacing the liquid in the body with polymers which make the body firm and take away any possible smell.

The exhibit also details what happens when you do harmful things to the body like smoke. Three sets of lungs on display detail how the lungs can deteriorate and turn black as a result of years of smoking.

"If there is any big takeaway here is that this is an unbelievable complex and not understood phenomenon that is the human body," said Todd.

The exhibit runs through September.
