Shubert marks anniversary of reopening

New Haven (WTNH) - 2009 marks a big anniversary for the legendary Shubert Theatre in New Haven.

The Shubert is celebrating its 25-anniverary of its reopening back in 1984. The theatre, which first opened in 1914, was closed in 1976 because of financial problems.

A combination of dedicated theatre fans and creative financing and city, state and federal grants got the theatre restored and reopened.

The Shubert has hosted the world premieres of shows now considered classics, like Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun.
