Get Wired | San Diego Comic Con 2011

Comic books, superheroes and cosplay, oh my!

INDIANAPOLIS - As fans flock to the 2011 San Diego Comic Con , stars cross the red carpet, panels filled with teen heartthrobs grace the program line-up and comic and graphic novel artists fill booths in the Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

Kids, this isn’t your creepy, basement-living uncle’s comic convention. This isn’t a scene from “Galaxy Quest.” This is geekery evolved to a higher level, when once it was pushed and wedgied and given a swirly.

Get Wired this week basks in the glory of what has become a sold-out conference, where people camp out days in advance to get in line to get an autograph from Stan Lee and where hundreds of chicks jockey for the best “Slave Leia” costume.

Check out this video from a hardcore Comic Con cosplayer.

Seriously, tickets have been sold out for over a year, and if you want to go, you’d best plan for 2013. Or you can try sneaking in like THIS guy, Keith Apicary.

Apicary has an awesome YouTube channel and you can follow him on Twitter @KeithApicary .

Want to keep track of all the strangeness, costumes and fun? How about a game of SDCC Bingo?

BINGO!

Web comic writer Curt Franklin is braving this year’s Con. He's representing his and Chris Haley's genius web comic Let’s Be Friends Again. Thanks to Curt for sending these pics to add to our SDCC photo gallery.

From Lego replicas, to “Star Wars” battle-scene reenactments, to Twi-hards fighting to see the glittery vampires, SDCC is a wonderland of geekness and I wish I was there to just catch a glimpse of this guy. /swoon
