Get to know Brittany Decker, the new MyTV9 Star!

What are you looking forward to this year as the new MyTV 9 Star?
I am so thrilled to have this opportunity and I want to share it with all of Connecticut! I want to combine my passion of broadcasting, producing, and editing with my love of meeting people and traveling the state! I want to take this year to shine light on what exciting events are going on throughout Connecticut and on different individuals and businesses. I want to share a smile, positive energy, and my goal of welcoming new viewers to be a part of MyTV9 with me! I hope everyone follows my journey! And keep an eye out for the Star Car!!!

Favorite foods?
Chicken, chocolate, and cheese!

What is your experience in this industry?
I am graduating senior as of this May (2011) with a mass-media communications degree at Western New England College. I am so lucky to have my dream job as I graduate and continue to follow my career ambition of reporting the news. I have been awarded the past two years with first place in my college’s media festival for news reporting and I was honored with an Associated Press Award for news reporting with a story I created while in Cambodia. I was involved with the rebranding of ESPN at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and also was an intern at WWLP News Channel 22 in Springfield, Massachusetts!

What is life like as Miss Connecticut?
I am currently the reigning Miss Connecticut until June of 2011! With this title I have traveled the state of Connecticut to different events each day. I have had the opportunity to volunteer with a variety of organizations and meet so many amazing people! I have promoted my platform, “One World: Hope for All Children”-a message instilling self-confidence in youth of all different backgrounds, that I have spread around CT, the country, and abroad. I lived my dream of representing Connecticut in the Miss America pageant this past January in Las Vegas… Definitely an experience of a lifetime!

Secret talents?
I dress up as characters for birthday parties! ..and I can make balloon animals!

What are some interesting facts about you?
I love to travel- I have visited most states during a cross-country road trip and have volunteered throughout Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Chicago focusing on Urban Youth Development. I have recently spent time in Cambodia working in schools, with Girls Guides troops, and I am on the board of a medical clinic. I have been to Haiti twice in 2010 visiting my friends at the Christian Haitian Outreach Orphanage!

I love to sing, work out, volunteer… I enjoy country music, play a little guitar, camping, adventures, having fun, bowling, and meeting new people!

Favorite animal?
Pig… I won’t eat ham, bacon, sausage, etc.. because I’d like a pet pig :)

Yankees or Red Sox?
Red Sox! No question =)

Favorite gift?
A bracelet from a little girl that she made for her and I that said “W.W.B.D.” She told me it stands for her motto: “What would Brittany do?”-A question she asks herself every time she has an important decision to make.
